Supresta Advocates for Improved Fire Safety Worldwide, Offers Free Online Drawing of Fire Safety Equipment in Support of Fire Prevention Week
September 18, 2006
Contact—Tina Picariello, 914.269.5900
As worldwide advocates for fire safety, Supresta is proud to support Fire Prevention Week that will be observed nationwide October 8 – 14, 2006. From now until October 14, users can visit www.supresta.com to read fire safety tips and enter to win a Kidde KK2 kitchen fire extinguisher or smoke alarm. Fire Prevention Week is a program of the National Fire Protection Association, and this year’s theme is “Prevent Cooking Fires — Watch What You Heat.”
Headquartered in Ardsley, New York, Supresta is a leading advocate for improving fire safety standards around the world as well as an industry-leading manufacturer and distributor of phosphorus based flame retardants, plasticizers, additives, and lubricants.
The issue of fire safety is serious, but it is sometimes overlooked, since the majority of deaths and property losses occur in small residential fires. In the United States, more than 3,000 people lose their lives as a result of residential fires that cause more than $10 billion in property damage. A home structure fire is reported every 79 seconds, and someone dies from a home fire every 135 minutes in America.
The best protection against fires is prevention; however, when accidents do occur the proper use of flame retardants and flame retardant plasticizers provides valuable escape time for people and first responders. In the kitchen — where 3 in 10 reported home fires start — flame retardants can be found in the wires of appliances; in the casings of some heating appliances; in the rigid foam in kitchen walls; and even in the insulation of iceboxes.
Supresta is a founding member of the American Fire Safety Council, which has been instrumental in pushing forward national standards for residential furniture and bedding. Supresta is also a member of the European Flame Retardant Association and is active with similar associations in Japan and China.
For more information on Supresta’s advocacy and legislative efforts, contact Mark Buczek, Vice President of Advocacy and Legislative Affairs, 914.269.5900, or log onto www.supresta.com.

Supresta Opens New Research and Development Laboratory for Flame Retardants in Wolfen, Germany, Improving Service to Customers
September 7, 2006
Contact: Valentin van den Boogaard, +31 (0)33 4534 575 ( Amersfoort, The Netherlands) or Anantha Desikan, 1.914.269.5900 ( Ardsley, New York USA)
ARDSLEY , NEW YORK—Supresta is pleased to announce the opening of its new research and development (R&D) laboratory in Wolfen, Germany. The facility opened its doors on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, after moving from its previous location in Deventer, The Netherlands. The new Wolfen location is in close proximity to Supresta’s production facility in Bitterfeld, Sachsen-Anhalt. For Supresta customers, the new location will allow for improved service, particularly faster response rates to technical product inquiries.
Supresta’s Wolfen R&D chemists cooperate with the organization’s sales and production teams by providing ongoing technical market support to customers: performing flame tests; analyzing product issues; and developing new products. As fire performance testing is critical to Supresta’s customers, the Wolfen R&D lab has capabilities for both small and large scale testing. It is well outfitted with equipment, including a cone calorimeter to test fire potential and measure smoke evolution and a Werner Matthis lab coater to fabricate test samples as well as handle thermal testing.
Supresta’s Wolfen lab is integral to the success of Supresta’s European sales and marketing team and to the Bitterfeld production facility. The Wolfen lab is also deeply embedded in the global R&D division of Supresta, which is headquartered in Ardsley, New York in the United States.
Supresta's R&D division is staffed by some the world’s leading research and development scientists in phosphorus chemistry and is ahead of the rest, registering hundreds of patents in the last quarter century. The division conducts fundamental and application research on sustainable phosphorus based flame retardants for applications such as rigid and flexible polyurethane foams, engineering resins, and flame retardant plasticizers. The group also focuses on process technology research, making significant contributions to cost reductions in the manufacturing processes. Additionally, at the urging of Supresta’s advocacy department, Supresta’s R&D chemists anticipate new product and application demands resulting from trends in legislation. The work of Supresta’s R&D division is essential to the Supresta organization.
For more information on Supresta, its products, and its R&D laboratory located in Wolfen, Germany, please contact Anantha Desikan (in Ardsley, New York USA), +1.914.269.5900, or Valentin van den Boogaard (in Amersfoort, The Netherlands) +31 (0)33 4534 575.

Supresta has displayed excellence in all areas of market leadership, including the identification of market challenges, drivers and restraints, as well as strategy development and methods of addressing these market dynamics. Additionally, Supresta has continually demonstrated solutions for monitoring market changes and for implementing superior market strategies.
More specifically, Supresta has received the Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award for Excellence in the Flame Retardant Chemicals Market for the following reasons:
- Ability to Satisfy Clients’ Needs and Expectations. Customers demand flame retardants that are of superior quality and also require a variety of products for diverse applications. Supresta excels in providing its customers with a comprehensive product portfolio and outstanding service, catering to customers’ needs.
