Supresta is a leading advocate for improving fire safety around the world. More than 80% of our revenues come from products that serve markets requiring fire safe products. These markets are driven by legislation for items such as furniture and mattresses, industry-wide standards in areas such as electronics, and requirements of equipment manufacturers in areas like aviation and power generation equipment.
The issue of fire safety is serious, but it is sometimes overlooked, since the majority of deaths and property losses occur in smaller residential fires. Both the United States and Europe each lose more than 3,000 people a year to fires with fully 75% of them in residential dwellings. The proper use of flame retardants provides valuable escape time for people and first responders.
Supresta is a founding member of the American Fire Safety Council (AFSC), which is dedicated to promoting increased fire safety in North America. This organization has been instrumental in pushing forward national standards for residential furniture and bedding. In Europe, Supresta is a member of the European Flame Retardant Association (EFRA), which promotes flame retardants as an important part of a fire safety program.
Supresta is also active with similar associations in Japan and China.
