Akzo wanted to divest of businesses capable of standing alone in 2004 in order to create room to maneuver in other business areas.

What are the most common applications of your products?
- Polyurethane flame retardants for rigid and flexible foams. Common end products include furniture, mattresses, and insulation.
- Engineering resins for electronics and high-end structural plastics. A main application is electrical connectors and boxes.
- Functional fluids for power generation, lubricants, aviation, and industrial hydraulic systems. Some of Supresta’s functional fluids are also used as wetting agents to reduce the surface tension of certain fluids and are used where fire hazards are present.
- Flame retardant plasticizers that assist in processing, add malleability, and provide fire assistance. These products are a key additive in the printed wiring board market.
